2007

The southern Region Leadership Conference began with DECA Day at Sea World. Dinner was provided to DECA members and advisors by Sea World at their Ports Of Call. The evening ended with Shamu and the trainers joining DECA members at the opening session for an inspiring entertainment centered on the theme, "Believe."

DECA members from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and the host state, Texas attended the conference. Almost 900 members and advisors participated in workshops designed to further enhance leadership development and career understanding. Workshop topics included entrepreneurship, creative thinking, innovative teamwork, leadership challenge, leadership skill development, competitive event success and integrating DECA into the curriculum.

The conference ended on a high note with keynote speaker Josh Lundquist at the closing session. His refreshing blend of energy and humor inspired DECA members to reach their full potential. Josh shared stories about losing his leg to cancer, ski racing in the Paralympics and humorous incidents with his artificial leg to give realistic motivation for overcoming adversity and goal setting.
